When we lived in Chesterton, we never had a problem finding great organics, and there was an abundance of health foods everywhere we looked. Since moving to Franklin I have discovered that this is the unhealthiest town in the state of Indiana. Seriously, there is only ONE health food store, and they offer NO organic produce of any kind. However...there are FOUR Mexican restaurants within a 5 mile radius, two Chinese restaurants, several pizza shops, and a Greek restaurant/steakhouse. Still.....no good health food stores.
I have been searching for a good body cleanse and recently found a book about cleansing, and another book about fighting the sugar war. I would love to follow every menu and tidbit in both of these books, but I can't do it when I can't find the items that are listed in these books. When I buy groceries and go into the organic section, the only fruit I can find is grapes, apples, oranges and avocados. Veggies are a little more abundant, but not much. I find that I only buy these items and that doesn't give me much of a variety.
I know that if I could find what I'm looking for that I would follow the cleanse to a T, and I have several friends that would be willing to try it with me, but they have the same problem that I have. Oh...the FRUSTRATION!!! Why is it that it's so easy for people to eat pure junk, but when it comes to things that are actually good for our bodies....these things are no where to be found? I don't feel good, I need some good healthy food, I need to feel like I felt a year ago.......

Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

We obviously prefer the organics, too, but when budget or selection just doesn't allow, I admit to buying non-organic produce. Every week I buy some produce that isn't organic. I figure it's better than not eating produce at all =)
The biggest results we've seen have come when we've eliminated the processed foods, including all white sugar and most flours. You know, things that aren't really "food" anywhere, but "byproducts" of real food =)
P.S. We ate some of the broccoli from our garden this week for the first time... whoo hoo!
Jaime, I don't know how you find the time for gardening....and you are a much more patient person that I am I guess.
I've found that if I buy just the organics I can get that helps a little. I do buy non organic produce at times, but it honestly doesn't taste as good. I did recently find some organic grapefruits and they were so delicious! Very sweet and juicy!
